Drops - Summer

These works tell a story of soil giving abundant harvests, of dry, hot air of a raging summer. Of seedlings becoming mature under the sun, of promises made for the year coming. And of golden rains pouring over the fields.

Le opere raccontano una storia di terre che regalano abbondanti raccolti, dell'aria secca e calda di una torrida estate. Di semi che maturano al sole, di promesse fatte per l'anno a venire. E piogge dorate che cadono sui campi.

I created an abstract background which was completed with ink drawings. These artworks are watercolor and ink drawing on Italian Fabriano 100% cotton paper. I've created four artworks measuring 11,7x8,3 inches that is 30x21 centimetres.

Ho creato uno sfondo astratto che ho completato con disegni ad inchiostro. Queste opere sono state realizzate con acquerello e inchiostro sula splendida carta Fabriano 100% cotone che uso solitamente. Si tratta di quattro opere in formato A4 (30x21 cm).

The making of Drops - Summer

As I've already mentioned before, I've been spending some time in the Tuscan countryside during the month of July where I've also been working a lot, inspired by Nature as always.

Come scritto in un post precedente, ho passato del tempo nella campagna toscana durante il mese di luglio, dove ho lavorato molto, ispirata dalla natura.

Since a while I felt the need to create something more abstract and I started working on this direction in Florence, where I created the basis for four some paintings.

Da un po' di tempo sentivo il bisogno di creare qualcosa di più astratto e ho iniziato a lavorare in questa direzione già a Firenze, prima di partire, dove ho creato le basi per alcuni dipinti.

But the amazing nature of the country gave me inspiration for accomplishing the works and creating new ones.

Ma la bellissima natura della campagna mi ha dato l'ispirazione per concluderli e crearne di nuovi. 

This is the place where I belong to, the place where I was born, and really feel a deep bonding with this land.

Questo è il posto a cui appartengo, il posto dove sono nata e sento un legame profondo con questa terra.

Summer in the Tuscan countryside

I used to spend my summer days in the Tuscan countryside since I was a child. School was over and I was free to explore and wander. These images mean a lot to me. They are something deeply rooted in my memory, and a bright sense of discover and freedom. 

Passavo le estati nella campagna toscana quando ero bambina. La scuola finiva ed ero libera di esplorare e girellare. Queste immagini significano molto per me. Sono qualcosa di profondamente radicato nella memoria, e un senso luminoso di scoperta e libertà. 

This is where I spent most of my time during the months of July and August, and these are the beauties and some of the animals that I met during my stay. 

Ho passato qui gran parte del tempo in luglio e agosto, e queste sono le bellezze e gli animali che mi hanno fatto compagnia o che ho incrociato solo per pochi istanti.

And of course all this was greatly inspiring. I've been working hard and produced new art and other things. I'll show you in the next post.

E naturalmente tutto questo è stato di grande ispirazione. Ho lavorato molto e prodotto nuove opere e altre cose. Ve le mostrerò nei prossimi post.

Summer work in the studio

During the month of July I've been spending some time in the Tuscan countryside. I've been working so much and it's really been a productive time, I adore working during the summer. I've been cutting 10 metres of paper, painting, typing and writing, planning, getting some work done for the times ahead, drawing, worked a project that was waiting to be done since a long time and that will be ready by the end of the summer. Lots of energy around.

Durante il mese di luglio ho passato un po' di tempo nella campagna toscana. Ho lavorato moltissimo ed è stato un periodo molto produttivo, mi piace tanto lavorare in estate. Ho tagliato 10 metri di carta, dipinto, scritto a mano e a macchina, pianificato, mi sono avvantaggiata per i mesi a venire, disegnato, portato avanti un progetto che avevo nel cassetto da lunghissimo tempo e che sarà pronto a fine l'estate.

From Recollections of the Arabian Nights By Lord Tennyson

This new series of paintings is completely inspired to the ancient collection of Asian stories One Thousand and One Nights better known as the Arabian Nights. The collection is a marvellous juxtaposition of voices, characters, places, songs, riddles, Peoples and cultures. And this complexity is what I tried to evoke with the colors and lines. 

The artworks are watercolors and ink on high quality 300gr/mq rough 100% cotton Italian paper measuring 50x50 cm ( 19.7x19.7 inches) the 4 square ones, and 70x50 cm (27.50x19.7 inches) the rectangular one. 

The titles are dedicated to the charachters of the Tales: Sheherazade, The Magician, Ali Baba, Aladdin, Shahrayar. 

They are all available in my shop here. 

Questa nuove serie di opere è ispirata all'antica collezione di novelle asiatiche Le mille e una notte. La raccolta è una meravigliosa giustapposizione di voci, personaggi, luoghi, canzoni, indovinelli, popoli e culture. Ed è proprio questa complessità che ho cercato di evocare con i colori e le linee. 

Le opere sono create con acquerello e inchiostro su carta ruvida di alta qualità 300gr/mq 100% cotone che misura 50x50cm (le 4 opere quadrate) e 70x50 cm (l'opera rettangolare).

I titoli sono dedicati ai personaggi delle fiabe: Sheherazade, The Magician, Ali Baba, Aladdin, Shahrayar.

Botanica, Blossom

Honeysuckle scent, Fuchsia blossom, Rose wind and Tangerine sunset. I've just finished working on four new original watercolor paintings of the Botanica series. The drawing is made with ink, the size of the paper is A4. I really love this ever changing series and the infinite, invisible changes of the hues and the shapes. Each living creature is unique. 

Honeysuckle scent, Fuchsia blossom, Rose wind e Tangerine sunset. ho appena finito questi quattro acquerelli originali della serie Botanica. I disegni sono fatti con l'inchiostro e la carta è un A4. Mi piace questa serie con le sue piccole, invisibili variazioni nelle tonalità e nelle forme. Ogni creatura vivente è unica.

Zen dreams

If you ask me, I answer zen. This is perfectly my style, especially for decorating the bedroom. where a simple, evocative image, can stand alone in a clean and empty space to be filled with dreams, emotions, meditation.

Se lo chiedete a me, io rispondo zen. E' esattamente il mio stile sopratutto per arredare la camera da letto, dove un'immagine semplice ed evocativa può stare da sola in uno spazio aperto e lasciato vuoto, da riempire con sogni, emozioni, meditazione.

Ho illustrato la copertina e realizzato un disegno per ciascun racconto. E' stato facile farsi venire le idee, perchè il testo è ricco di ispirazione e le immagini nascono spontaneamente dalle pagine. Lo stile asciutto e denso di significato. Sooo proud to announce the beautiful short stories by Gianluca Meis "Quando arrivarono i tedeschi" ("When the Germans arrived") is about to be launched during the International Book Fair of Torino by publisher Roberto Russo founder of Graphe.it Edizioni on friday 15th.
I've illustrated the cover and made a drawing for each short story. It's been easy to have ideas, because the text is really inspiring and images kept springing alive from the pages. You can read more about the book here and purchase the book online or in your bookshops.

Emily Dickinson

Entering the Protestant Cemetery on a natural hill just outside the old city walls of Florence. It was active for 50 years only, from 1827 to 1877. 

Entrata al cimitero protestante, che sorge su una collina naturale subito fuori le antiche mura di Firenze. E' stato attivo per soli 50 anni, dal 1827 al 1877.

I was actracted by the flowers. The Iris is the symbol of Florence and you can stare at a sea of thousands of purple flowers and smell their gentle perfume. Spring is life but of course Death is approaching fast cutting off trims. This place is soaking romanticism in every possible way. 

Sono stata attratta dai fiori. Il giglio è il simbolo di Firenze e si vedeva dai viali un mare di centinaia di fiori viola, con il loro profumo delicato. La primavera è Vita ma qui la Morte arriva con la falce a tagliare tutto. Questo posto emana romanticismo in ogni suo angolo.

Crosses and flowers. Life and death. This place has inspired the "Isle of the Dead", the best-known painting of Swiss Symbolist artist Arnold Böcklin. He painted the first three versions of his artwork in this cemetery. 

Croci e fiori. Vita e morte. Qui il simbolista svizzero Arnold Böcklin ha avuto l'ispirazione per il suo famoso dipinto "L'isola dei morti". Dipinse qui le prime tre versioni dell'opera.

For many death is grief. But I found two women chatting nicely while sitting on a bench on top of the hill. 

Per molti la morte è dolore. Ma ho trovato due signore che chiacchieravano sorridendo sedute su una panchina in cima alla collina. 

Important people are buried here. Important men and women.

Qui sono sepolte persone importanti. Uomini ma anche donne. 

Like Elisabeth Barret Browning and Frances Trollope. Two very talented women of wit. I can imagine they would have talked and talked under the cypress getting upset against slavery. Elisabeth came from a family of Jamaican slave-owners and was a half-blood herself. She hated slavery. Frances, or Fanny, after travelling between industrial England and colonial America, had witnessed the two different kinds of slavery and had raised her voice against this condition in her novels.

Come Elisabeth Barrett Browning e Frances Trollope. Due talentuose donne d'ingegno. Le posso immaginare che chiacchierano e chiacchierano sotto il cipresso e si arrabbiano contro la schiavitù. Elisabeth veniva da una famiglia di padroni di schiavi giamaicana, ed era lei stessa una mezzo sangue. Odiava la schiavitù. Frances, o Fanny, dopo aver viaggiato tra l'Inghilterra industriale e l'America, era stata testimone di questi due tipi di schiavitù in entrambe le nazioni e aveva alzato la voce contro queste condizioni nei suoi romanzi.

This is where Elisabeth Barrett Browning was buried. It seems that Emily Dickinson was inspired to write the poem "The Souls selects her own Society" after seeing a picture of this tomb.

Ecco dove è sepolta Elisabeth Barrett Browing. Sembra che Emily Dickinson fosse stata ispirata a scrivere la poesia "L'anima sceglie i suoi compagni" proprio dopo aver visto un'immagine di questa tomba.

List of what I found during my visit: ivy, cypresses, lizards, poppies, irises, crosses, loops and sea knots, irises, anchors, marble captain's hats, widows, wild strawberries, skulls, buttercups, nettle, irises, bees, silence, stones, epitaphs, gravestones, sculptures, nuns, grass, more irises. Beauty. 

Lista di cosa ho trovato durante la visita: edera, cipressi, lucertole, papaveri, iris, croci, nodi da marinaio, ancore, cappelli da capitano di marmo, vedove, fragole di bosco, teschi, botton d'oro, ortica, iris, api, silenzio, pietre, epitaffi, lapidi, sculture, suore, erba, ancora iris. Bellezza.

1409 graves of captains, young sisters, poets, painters, writers, artists, "colored", sculptors, preachers, men of faith, historians, journalists, writers, diplomats, ministers, professors, slaves, descendants of William Shakespeare, intellectuals, merchants.

1409 tombe di capitani, giovani sorelle, poeti, pittori, scrittori, artisti, neri, predicatori, uomini di fede, storici, giornalisti, scrittori, diplomatici, ministri, professori, schiavi, discendenti di William Shakespeare, intellettuali, mercanti. 

English, American, Hebrew, Russian, Prussian, Nubian, Africans, Greek, Swiss, German, half natives... people of 16 different nationalities rest in peace here. And it was only the 19th century. 

Inglesi, americani, ebrei, russi, prussiani, nubiani, africani, greci, svizzeri, tedeschi, mezzi nativi americani... persone di 16 differenti nazionalità riposano in pace qui. Ed era solo il 19° secolo.

Today is a beautiful sunny day. But for this moment. Perfect clouds for a romantic, almost gothic instant.

Oggi è una bella giornata di sole. Tranne che in questo momento. Nuvole perfette per un istante romantico, quasi gotico.

Atlantis

Today I'm glad to introduce a brand new series of artworks inspired to submarine, imaginary landscapes and called Atlantis. I wanted to create a movement of creatures gently swaying underwater and producing magical echoes.

Vi presento oggi una nuova serie di opere ispirate a paesaggi immaginari sottomarini e chiamata Atlantis. Volevo creare un movimento di creature dolcemente ondeggianti sott'acqua che producono echi magiche. 

These artworks are made of watercolor, collage and ink drawing on the beautiful Italian Fabriano 100% cotton paper I always use. I've created four artworks measuring 11,7x8,3 inches that is 30x21 centimetres, plus a very large one measuring 27,6x19,7 inches that is 70x50 centimeters.

Queste opere sono state realizzate con acquerello, collage e inchiostro sulla splendida carta Fabriano 100% cotone che uso solitamente. Per ora si tratta di quattro opere in formato A4 (30x21 cm) e una molto grande (70x50 cm).

Outdoor working on Atlantis

One of the pleasures of handmade life is that you can sometimes work in places different than your studio or office. Spring in Florence, and in the whole Tuscany, means the blooming of the Iris, a sumptuous flower delicately scented and symbol of the city. This time of the year is perfect for outdoor working and this is what bright sunbeams inspired me to create. Listening to gorgeous podcasts is definitivetly part of the inspiration. This time I'm using mixed media, watercolor, collage and ink on paper. Watery artworks.

Uno dei piaceri del lavorare per conto proprio è che a volte si può lavorare in posti diversi dallo studio o dall'ufficio. La primavera a Firenze, e in tutta la Toscana, è segnata dal fiorire dell'Iris, un fiore delicatamente profumato e simbolo della città. Questo periodo dell'anno è perfetto per lavorare all'aperto ed ecco cosa il sole mi ha inspirato a fare. Ascoltare i grandi podcast di Radio Rai3 è sicuramente parte dell'ispirazione. Stavolta è tecnica mista, acquerello, collage e inchiostro su carta. Per opere acquatiche.
